Scootertastic

After having picked up the scooter battery from the Sea garage the previous day Stu and I decided that we would test it out by driving down to UNIS. The battery is luckily an easy component to take out and put back in, of course making sure that you do not electrocute yourself in the process. The drive down to UNIS was an interesting one with both of out goggles steaming up and then freezing ending up with them around our necks rather than protecting our eyes. At one point on the scooter track through to town there is a steep banked incline that you have to navigate at which point Stu and I were having to lean to the side so much we were almost of the scooter. We made it to UNIS, however, in good time and I one piece ready for the field work at KHO.
On the way back from KHO Dag dropped myself and Stu off at UNIS so that we could scooter back up the hill. This all started out well navigating our way through the main part of town. When we got past the first bridge, however, we managed to lose our sense of direction spectacularly. Thinking that we had gone the wrong way we attempted to turn around leaving the scooter at a horrific angle on a slope prompting me to jump off so that Stu could attempt to correct it. Having turned the scooter around, we, perhaps naively, tried to get it up a steep slope and the scooter, as well as Stu and I, experienced out first scooter rolling of the season, hopefully the last as well. We were fortunately able to rock the scooter back upright with only minor worry when for the next 5 minutes it did not start again. When we got it started again Stu got it back into position so that we could take it up the slope, a slope that led to nowhere, something we found out 50 m later. We then had to reverse the scooter all the way back down the slope to the road again. Deciding that we should cut our losses we took the scooter along the main road back up through town (something we are not technically supposed to do). It was a relief when we got home and parked the scooter in its spot for the night and got to crawl into bed at around 0100.
Hopefully we will have more luck over the weekend when we take it out but for now night, night.
